Drawing of experiment

Postby dykath » Thu Sep 15, 2016 10:34 pm

This is the thread that the drawing experiment will happen. We will need to have a picture posted of what we are going to draw and then when we are all finished we post the final drawings.
Now remember have fun and you can use both paper or electronic ways of drawing if any one wants to add more rules then post those as well.
I am who I am I don't need nor want a label I simply am who I am and your approval is not needed nor wanted I am me and me is pretty awesome.

Okay I propose that we either draw Pikachu or Yoshi. In my opinion, I think it should be Yoshi because a Pikachu would be really quick for me. What are everyone else's thoughts?

Pikachu would also be quick for me. And there are more variations with Yoshis.

We could always start with one, give everyone a week or until everyone's done until we start the next one.

I like that idea. This time, we can all time ourselves drawing Pikachu and post the drawings, the next time we can do Yoshi!
It will be like a warmup!

Good plan! :D Will we be drawing any specific pose or such? Or will we just be drawing however we like?

How about since it's just like a warm-up/practice, it can be Pikachu in any pose, and it could be preferably hand drawn on paper. (Unless you're faster at digital)
Just an idea. We can do a different way, obviously.

I'll draw mine tomorrow if we're going with that.

Sounds good! So Pikachu then? I'll try to do mine tomorrow as well if we go for this. :[:)]

This little guy took me about 11 minutes. I got interrupted and it took me a few seconds to pause the timer so I think it's a little less than that, but I'm rounding up. I wanted to challenge myself and do more of an action pose (instead of the usual standing face forward image), but it didn't end up looking like Pikachu's in-franchise design. So I'm going to go with it and say it's more of a realistic style.

I had to keep making slight adjustments to make it look right, that's why it took so long. >_<
Ahh and look at all those eraser lines! :SB:s

Here is my Pikachu, it took me about an hour to make. Sorry that it is blurry, it is only a photo and not scanned. Took me much longer than expected. Was fun though! I really liked this pose. :[:)]

I did mine in 10 minutes, and I'll probably give it to my sister to color in. She loves Pikachu.

Ahhhh, cute Pikachus!! <33

I broke out an old, barely used sketchbook for this. Was very interesting to look through. :[laugh] Anyway, for my Pikachu, I kept track of a few different times... because why not :P It took 3m14s to sketch the very basic guides.
Spoiler:
Image

Continuing from that time, I finished sketching at 14m30s.
Spoiler:

And finished the whole thing after 35m34s.(don't laugh; it's been a long while since I've inked anything and my dog kept shaking the bed with all of his scratching)
Spoiler:
Image

It only took about 3 minutes to add in a bit of color so for just the line art itself, it was more like 32 minutes.
I should've gotten a little creative and drew him playing Pokémon Go! :[laugh]

I'm much more comfortable with digital but it does take me a whoooole lot longer so it's good we're drawing on paper!

So many cute Pikachus! :[:)] I'm sure we all will be dreaming of Pikachus for the next couple of weeks at least.

@Starry Sky that is cool to see your sketching process! :SBthumbsup Do you have any tips about getting proportions right? I think it is rather tricky to do.

I think using guidelines is really the only tip I have other than practice. Proportions are really hard to figure out! Simplifying everything to basic shapes (in whatever way makes the most sense to you) helps you map out everything better and focus on proportions and placement rather than being distracted by the actual drawing. I used to hate drawing with guidelines but now I've learned they easily make my drawings a ton better :SBthumbsup Oh, I often compare the sizes of different things in the drawing too. If there are things that are similar sizes, you can use those to help you determine proportions. For example, Pikachu is approximately two heads tall (the feet add a bit of height) so you can draw a snowman of two circles the same size and the top one is the head and the bottom is about how big the body will be. One more thing is don't be afraid. I tend to draw ears way too small because I worry that the correct size would be too big and look weird so I make them smaller which ends up looking weirder than it would've if I were to have draw them bigger. So don't be afraid to draw that massive ear or nose! *glares in the mirror*

Re: Drawing of experiment

Postby ravenpie52 » Mon Sep 19, 2016 5:04 pm

Alright everybody! Next weekend is Yoshi! Since this is a bit more complicated, I think it would be okay if people wanted to practice a little if they wanted beforehand. I certainly knew how to draw Pikachu before this exercise. Of course, if you want to go in more blind then you certainly can!

(I'm also wondering about what we do after this; if it will be a weekly event or if we drop it. If we keep this going, we'll need to come up with more models. My next vote is our favorite Kirby copy ability(s) [assuming people know some or have one already]. Kirby is pretty simple but his different hats/props can be more complex!)

The drawing and inking of the line art took about 14 min. The brief coloring I did in 2 min. (scanner kinda botched it, but it looks a little stylized so whatever)
Yoshi.png

So this took a total of 16 min.
I know it's not supposed to be colored but I wanted to, so ehh.
